On Planting Your Own Vineyard Vine

Vineyards are very popular in Italy, France and some South American countries. In the mainland, vineyards still remain steady industries in the south. Many eastern and northern territories who would like to replicate the distinct southern flavor of America's glorious past are likewise maintaining vineries, hoping to capture the magic of the old world.

You, too, can have your own vineyard, provided that you have the space required by a vineyard vine.

Basically, you'd need land big enough to accommodate around 5 vineyard vine rows. Each row should at least be 8 to 9 feet away from each other. The vineyard vine should be planted at least 3 to 4 feet away from the next one. This would easily cost you a land with an area of 2,000 square feet. Clearly, this isn't a small space we're talking about. The joys of maintaining your own vineyard are very much worth it, after all.

Planting a vineyard vine should be commenced from the very basic step, cultivating the rows. The rows should be properly spaced, and their corresponding portion of the soil should be efficiently tilled to make sure that water will be retained. Even with a spacing of 3 to 4 feet away from each other, vines can still prove to be voracious feeders who will compete with one another for the nutrients of the soil. We could attribute this to the rapid pace of their growth.

Thereafter, it's just a matter of planting the shoots and caring for them until they are big enough to withstand the environmental conditions.

Of course, you'd need to establish support all around the vineyard, so that the vines will have something to cling to.

Also, during the first two quarters, always strive to trim some of their growths. The reason for this is that the vines may be too young and too fragile to support their own weight, and this may result in unwanted breakage of stems. Like children, they should be reared towards early maturity so that they may grow up properly.

The benefits of having your vineyard are ornamental and practical, depending on the vines you will choose to cultivate. Grapevines are excellent options for sustenance and for other purposes, like wine or refreshments. Flower vines would provide great colors for your land, and their sight alone would make the entire process very much worth the hard work.
